Joy Silver Poised to Flip Trump California Senate Seat
My job as a California State Senator will be to bring progressive values and practical solutions to Sacramento and to make sure that our civil rights are protected…
Media and politicos turned their eyes immediately after the announcement toward Joy Silver, who came in a close second for the seat in 2018 – within three percent of a victory – and secured more votes in the district than popular California Governor Gavin Newsom. She also raised over $1.2 million as a first-time candidate.
The Riverside State Senate district has a Republican voter registration advantage of 2.1%. Despite the challenging landscape, strategists have stated that NPP (no party preference) and moderate Republican voters may steer clear of another Trump-backed divisive candidate and gravitate more towards a candidate such as Silver with business expertise and community-based issues.
Silver spent much of 2019 working with her team, with state leaders, and within her community to assess how to best build on her prior success and achieve victory in the anticipated 2022 race. However, a sudden change in political landscape – incumbent Senator Jeff Stone being recruited to the Trump Administration – has prompted the unexpected Special Election. Silver says that she welcomes the opportunity to run in 2020.
“We know that our actions – and our votes-make change happen,” Silver said. “My job as a California State Senator will be to bring progressive values and practical solutions to Sacramento and to make sure that our civil rights are protected. We can solve on-going issues, like the Salton Sea, homelessness, and healthcare. Riverside County deserves someone you can count on. That’s me.”
Joy Silver’s campaign has already achieved key endorsements from organizations and community leadership, including multiple local Democratic clubs. Donors have been reaching out to contribute and volunteers are on the ground and collecting signatures of supporters to place Joy’s name on the ballot. Silver has also attracted heavy hitters to work on her campaign, including the award-winning Left Hook Strategies.
The Special Election is scheduled for March 3, 2020, the same date as the Presidential Primary for California. For more information visit www.JoySilverForCalifornia.com.
